CandlepowerPress was established by 4 musicians who wanted quality music learning curriculum for students and teachers, based on the philosophy that “Learning Music Can be Fun!.

They decided on the logo (a candle burning at both ends) because they all had full time jobs, and this was a labor love usually done at midnight. We have been fortunate to have great music educators providing our materials, and our materials have been used with thousands of students.

Our theory books are fun – puzzles, mazes, crosswords… real theory but in a format that makes the students want to do more ! We are also open to new, creative ideas and we welcome new submissions. Music teaching and music learning should be full of joy!

Doris Harry has been involved in music teaching and curriculum development in preschools, public schools, and at the University level.

As Director of The Music School in Sunnyvale, California, Doris worked with students, ages 12 months and up, and concentrated on training and curriculum. for general music and early childhood educators.

Several recordings for children and two television music series have added to her experience, and among more than 20 publications, her CD/book set based on Carnival of the Animals has created excitement for classical music activities. She has conducted over 200 workshops, seminars, and conference presentations, including CMEA, CAEYC, and NAEYC and MENC national conferences.

She received Bachelors and Masters degrees from the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati. Doris believes in Active Learning and that learning music well should be fun.
